Halloween Candy Dangers: Keep Your Pup Safe!

Halloween is just around the corner, and while it’s a fun time for treats, it can pose serious dangers for our furry friends! 🍬

Chocolate is a well-known hazard for dogs; even a small amount can lead to symptoms of unwellness such as vomiting, loose stool, loss of appetite, and for some dogs, seizures. In severe cases, it can cause an irregular heartbeat and possible death. Dark chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, and cocoa powder are more toxic compared to milk or white chocolate. Other foods that can also pose toxicity for dogs include macadamia nuts, raisins, and grapes, as referenced by "Macadamia Nut Toxicosis in Dogs - Toxicology" in the Merck Veterinary Manual and "Chocolate Poisoning in Dogs" by VCA Animal Hospitals.

But don’t forget about sugar-free treats! Many contain xylitol, which is extremely toxic to dogs. Ingesting xylitol can cause a rapid drop in blood sugar, leading to weakness, seizures, or even liver failure.

To keep your pup safe, keep all candy out of reach and educate kids about the dangers of sharing treats with pets!
